CCGP/AstraZeneca Excellence in Geriatric Pharmacy Practice Award

Alexandria, VA, January 2, 2004 - Steve Adlridge, RPh, MAd, FASCP, CGP, received the CCGP/AstraZeneca Excellence in Geriatric Pharmacy Practice Award on November 12, 2003 at Senior Care Pharmacy ’03, American Society of Consultant Pharmacists’ (ASCP) 34th Annual Meeting and Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas. A long-time supporter of CCGP, Aldridge received the award from CCGP Chairman Kristie Wallace at the opening general session.

“Mr. Aldridge exemplifies the highest standards of clinical professionalism and dedication to geriatrics-focused pharmacy practice—standards that all Certified Geriatric Pharmacists (CGPs) share and embrace,” Wallace said.

Mr. Aldridge is currently Director of Clinical Consultant Services for Omnicare/Georgia. He has worked tirelessly to promote the value of the CGP credential—both inside and outside his own organization and to members of the other health professions. He holds several academic positions: Preceptor, University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, and Adjunct Professor, Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy. Steve conducts a weekly radio program that focuses on geriatrics and reaches 18,000 listeners. He is also a regular guest speaker on a weekly syndicated program that reaches one million listeners. Steve promotes the CGP certification in his radio programs and has added significantly to the public’s awareness and understanding of the CGP credential. Steve was also the first recipient of the Eli Lilly Leadership in Education Award (1994) sponsored by the ASCP Research and Education Foundation. “The contributions of this year’s recipient to the overall vision and mission of CCGP and to the profession of senior care are certainly deserving of this prestigious award,” notes Wallace.

The sponsor of the award, AstraZeneca, will contribute a $2,500 educational grant in Aldridge’s name to be divided evenly between the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy.

The CCGP/AstraZeneca Excellence in Geriatric Pharmacy Practice Award recognizes the Certified Geriatric Pharmacist who fosters the principles of good pharmacy practice; demonstrates excellence in geriatric patient care; and, promotes the value and rigorous standards established by CCGP. The award is given annually to a Certified Geriatric Pharmacist who consistently exemplifies the vision and mission of CCGP.
