The CCGP/AstraZeneca Excellence in Geriatric Pharmacy Practice Award recognizes the Certified Geriatric Pharmacist who fosters the principles of good pharmacy practice; demonstrates excellence in geriatric patient care; and, promotes the value and rigorous standards established by CCGP.

We are pleased to announce that Greg D’Amour is the recipient of the 2006 award.

Dr. D’Amour earned his PharmD degree in 2003 from the University of New Mexico college of Pharmacy. His field of study was chronic disease management in geriatric patients. His career has included director of pharmacy for Sierra Vista Hospital (where he presently a member of the Governing Board) and he has practiced as a long term care pharmacy and emergency medical service pharmacy consultant. He is currently director of pharmacy and a clinical pharmacist at the New Mexico State Veterans’ Home.

He has served as faculty for a number of nursing programs and administers chronic disease management clerkships at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy. Greg also sits on a variety of committees affecting geriatric pharmacy, including the New Mexico Medicaid Drug Utilization Review committee. Not to be outdone by his professional work, Greg also participates in a variety of community youth programs.

Dr. D’Amour was certified in 2000 and serves as a valued member of and advisor to CCGP’s Examination Development Committee. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists and is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists as well as the American Pharmacists Association. His awards include the 2006 Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award from the New Mexico Pharmacist Association.

His contribution to the profession, his devotion to quality senior care for veterans his long-time dedication to the Commission certainly have earned him this award.
