The CCGP/AstraZeneca Excellence in Geriatric Pharmacy Practice Award recognizes the Certified Geriatric Pharmacist who fosters the principles of good pharmacy practice; demonstrates excellence in geriatric patient care; and, promotes the value and rigorous standards established by CCGP.

We are pleased to announce that Monica L. Mathys is the recipient of the 2006 award.  Dr. Mathys earned her PharmD degree in 1997 from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy. Her career has spanned community based retail, hospital and VA settings. In October she joined the Texas Tech School of Pharmacy as Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice. Although she is a member of the faculty she continues to care for patients as an Advanced Practice Pharmacist, providing geriatric psychiatry services at the Dallas VA Center.

She has served as faculty in a number of continuing education and community based patient care programs. She is also well published, having peer-reviewed papers appear in Clinics of Geriatric Medicine, Clinical Geriatrics, American Journal of Health System Pharmacy and The Annals of Pharmacotherapy.

Dr. Mathys has been certified since 2003 and is a member of CCGP’s Examination Development Committee.

Her contribution to the profession, her devotion to quality senior care and her dedication to the Commission have certainly earned her this award. We extend our congratulations to Monica for receiving the 2004 CCGP/AstraZeneca Excellence in Geriatric Pharmacy Practice Award.
