The CCGP/AstraZeneca
Excellence in Geriatric Pharmacy Practice Award recognizes the Certified
Geriatric Pharmacist who fosters the principles of good pharmacy
practice; demonstrates excellence in geriatric patient care; and,
promotes the value and rigorous standards established by CCGP.
We are pleased
to announce that Mark A. Stratton Pharm.D., CGP, BCPS, FASHP, is
the recipient of this year’s award. He was honored with this
award at the November, 2004 American Society of Consultant Pharmacist’s
Annual Meeting. In making the presentation, William Simonson, PharmD,
CGP, FASCP, noted that “Dr. Stratton’s commitment to
quality geriatric pharmacy care and his devotion to assuring the
success of CCGP’s certification program well qualifies him
for this award.”
Dr. Stratton
is presently professor of pharmacy and holds the Herbert and Dorothy
Langsam Endowed Chair in Geriatric Pharmacy at the University of
Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, College of Pharmacy. In fact, he
is the founder of the Center for Geriatric Pharmacy at the university
as he was also founder of the Center for Pharmaceutical Care of
the Elderly at the University of Houston and co-founder of the Center
for Aging, Research Education and Service at the University of New
Mexico.
He has been
extensively published in a number of noted journals and is a prolific
lecturer on pharmacotherapy and the elderly. Not to be outdone by
his professional success, Mark served as CCGP’s first vice-chairman
and subsequently chairman of the founding Board of Commissioners,
in which capacity he provided strong and valued leadership in establishing
the Commission’s certification program as the “Mark
of Merit” for Geriatric Pharmacists.
