In a world of more than 1,000 credentials
and certification programs, in all professions and industries, there
is only one that has already differentiated itself as a leader in
health care - the Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (CGP)
administered by the Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy.
Much of the excitement and
momentum driving the certification is the emergence of public awareness
of medication-related problems. These problems cost more than 100,000
lives each year and consume more than $100 billion in scarce health
care resources.
As America's medication-related problems
escalate, when the baby-boomer population reaches the older, at-risk
age group, pharmacists with CGP after their name will be sought
after for their unique qualifications and expertise. These will
be the pharmacists who moved, without pause, to sign up for the
CGP exams and completed requirements to earn the credential. These
will be the pharmacists who patients, caregivers, payers, and insurance
companies look for when they seek those who advocate patient care
first, while knowing how to contain costs most effectively. Click
here for more details.
